A quick way to remove suds from a dishwasher with the wrong detergent.

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009

If some puts in the wrong detergent or soap in an automatic dishwasher it will produce a seemingly endless supply of suds. Put a cup or two of cooking oil in the machine, it will cut down the suds and allow them to drain out.

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009

When doing a gas conversion on Frigidaire gas ranges with the very small simmer burner, just take a standard 7mm nut driver and grind it down around the sides and it will fit through the hole just fine.

Use a little less energy to dry clothes

When rinsing with cold water, don’t put the load in the dryer right away. Let the clothes warm up to room temperature then dry them.

Dryer not heating?

Monday, October 19th, 2009

It may or may not be the heating element. There is a thermal fuse or thermal cut off on many models that blows if the element overheats. The element can over heat if the vent or lint filter is clogged and the high limit thermostat did not cut off the heater. Many Dryer thermal cut off and thermal fuses come with a new high limit thermostsat in the kit. If it does replace both parts. A bad centrifugal switch in the motor can cause no heat and so can just about any thermostat in the dryer. Even a timer problem or a relay or electronic control can keep the heater from working. If it is a gas dryer, there are solonoids, an ignitor or a sensor that could be bad. Even a wiring problem can cause no heat. So check it out before you order a heater or heating element. A bad heating element may have a broken filiment which will be easy to spot. If you know what part you need, click on parts and get it fast.

5ab error code on electric ranges

Sunday, June 14th, 2009

The 5ab error code is actually sab. It is sabbath mode. The oven will not work. This error can occur on some frigidaire or maytag ranges if the clock button is pressed down for 3 or more seconds. Consult your owners manual but you can sometimes cancel the sabbath mode by holding down the clock button 3 seconds or more.

I have seen this error occur after wiping the control panel.
